Millions of people in the world are wasting over 50 billion of food per year. Because of this, only about 27% of food is avalible for consuming. In United States, 96.4 billion pounds of the 356 billion pounds of editible food were wasted. Compared to Australia, 10.5 billion was spent on food that were never eaten.Food waste is the third-largest component of generated waste by weight.According to a study by the University of Arizona Garbage Project, each American throws away 1.3 pounds of food a day, which amounts to 474.5 pounds per year per person.
